History & Heritage at Wall Eden Farm:
History & Heritage at Wall Eden Farm – on site-There is much to write about; this ancient land of Avalon, legendary for Excalibur and King Arthur. The sword Excalibur was lost to the lady of the lake, and I wonder whether this Somerset wetland, with its tidal flood plain, is the lake that holds the secret of Excalibur.
The River Brue (just a step from our cabins) continues to be entwined with history. We have reason to believe the pathway was once used by the historic Joseph of Arimathea and the Holy Thorne, which eventually leads all the way to Glastonbury Abbey. It is said Joseph was an ore merchant travelling the Mediterranean Seas, bringing with him the Holy Grail. It is also said he was the founder of Christianity within Europe. This saintly river Brue would have been navigable all the way to Glastonbury, the strong tidal flow allowing ships to pass the farm on its way to the Abbey at Glastonbury.

The foot bridge by the River sits 20 yards from our cabin Otters Bank, nearby the bridge at which our otters live. Large stones which once formed a Mill house, dated to 1300 AD can be seen from the foot bridge; these large stones lay scattered along the river bed, more visible in winter, when water levels are lower. A sword and other rare items including a 1300 ad apothecary bottle have been found on this site. The mill house would have been a resting place for water craft. I ponder if Joseph had spent the night here?
