There’s nothing like being out in the fresh air taking in the sights and sounds of the river to make you feel good about yourself. Regardless of if you’re just out for a leisurely paddle or if you take the sport of canoeing seriously, being outside and close to all the fantastic wildlife and history on the River Brue will immediately make you happier! Paddle directly from the farm across the beautiful Somerset levels in the South West, via the quaint villages of East Huntspill and Burtle in the direction of the world famous town of Glastonbury. Canadian canoes are known for their stability, making falling out of them an effort and controlling them an ease (with two people). They’re perfect for boating rookies or if you simply fancy a calm day (or couple of hours) on the river.

Upon arrival to Wall Eden, you’ll be kitted out with buoyancy jackets, paddles and a dry bag before heading over to the water with a member of staff. Your session will start with a demonstration on how to use the paddle, how to work with your paddling partner and a brief introduction to the river and surrounding area. After a safety briefing, you’ll be aided into the canoe and sent heading up stream through the Somerset countryside. From there, you’ll be within the depths of natural wildlife habitats including Kingfishers, Swans and Otters and you’ll be free to explore the magnificent River Brue at your own pace!

Regarding history, the River Brue has been navigable for thousands of years once used as a vital water passage for traders and Romans to aid the movement of peat after its extraction across the Somerset Levels. From your canoe, you can see the World War Two pillboxes which formed part of the British Defensive Line, with the aim of preventing the German forces from invading.

Just a few miles away from Burnham on Sea, Weston-super-Mare, Bridgwater and Cheddar, we’re in the perfect location for your canoeing. We’re also easily accessed from Bristol and Taunton and driving is not a necessity too; We’re only five minutes away from our local train station Highbridge and Burnham with local taxis available all day.
